It’s apparently “wedding season” here right now. I was informed that
there were at least 7 weddings that took place here in Dabakala yesterday. A
couple of them are close by, as I can hear the music (especially the drums)
from inside my room. It’s a time of joy and celebration, and lively (and loud)
music is a sign of those emotions here in West Africa, so I fall asleep to
joyful drumbeats as the festivities go later into the evening than my endurance
takes me.
On the way home from the workshop this evening, we passed two groups of
women, all dressed in brightly colored clothing—another sign of joy and
celebration in this culture. One group was dancing in a circle while musicians
played in the center of the group. Unfortunately, I didn’t get any pictures to
share here on my blog.
