Breakfast has become predictable, consisting of fresh bread, tea, and
an omelet with tomatoes and onions. I enjoy all of these things, so my day gets
started off on the right foot.
Today was very relaxed, with nothing at all on the program. l spent
some time walking around the market place and found many of the stalls empty,
since the big market day is Wednesday. I expect to be busy on the weekdays, so
I probably won’t get to see the hustle and bustle that I imagine is there when
it’s in full gear.
Most of the day, however, I spent reading, playing games on my tablet,
or doing some bookkeeping for my hobby. By the end of the day, I felt rested
and refreshed, recharged from the demands of the week of preparation and
training.
The most significant event of the day was a phone call from Matthieu.
He called in the morning to confirm that we are planning to go to a nearby
village for church tomorrow. He went on to mention that they had asked the
visitors to provide the morning message, and since he has done this in the past
when he has gone there, he wondered if I’d be willing to do it this time. This
did not come as a big surprise to me, since visiting pastors—and missionaries
are viewed as such, whether they have the credentials or title or not—are often
asked to preach when they visit somewhere, especially in the smaller churches.
So tomorrow I will be giving a message of encouragement (in French) to a group
of believers I’ve never met before. Not at all what I ever pictured myself
doing as an adult when I was a teenager!
P.S. I heard from Matthieu toward the end of the day that he had
updated the version of the program used to type special characters on the
computer where we hadn’t gotten them to work, and that solved the problem we
had been having yesterday.
